With world famous sculptures from the genius of modern sculpture, Constantin Brancusi, as well as other famous pieces, Targu-Jiu is very much the "City of Sculpture."  Every year artists from around the world come to town for the annual sculpture camp. 

Targu-Jiu is also blessed with great natural beauty including the spectacular Carpathian Mountains that frame the city in the north.  Museums, monasteries, a state of the art theater, and unique architecture complete what is a very vibrant, beautiful city.

The city also boasts a busy entertainment calendar including International Folk Festivals, Beer Festivals, and the annual “Targu-Jiu Days.”

Geographical Situation

Targu-Jiu is situated where the 45th parallel Northern Latitude meets the meridian of  23 Eastern Longitude, half the distance between the North Pole and the Equator.  The city lies 18 km. south of the Carpathian Mountain Chain, in the Targu-Jiu - Campu Mare Depression.  It lies 13 km. from north to south along both banks of the Jiu River and stretches 10 km. east to west.  Targu-Jiu is located in Gorj County in the southwestern part of Romania in the Region known as Oltenia.
